DAoC Player Wishlist: Post mortem

The DAoC Player Wishlist has been discontinued. Sanya and her team at Mythic are doing a perfectly fine job without it, and given that I now work for an MMO, I felt the wishlist was doing more of a dis-service than a service.

What was the wishlist?

The DAoC Player Wishlist was created during DAoC beta; as a member of the Jester's I could see that the testers were capable of overwhelming the dev team with the wrong kinds of feedback; so I created a tool to condense the data and help the critical mass data percolate to the top. Allowing players to conduct opinion polls on feature and change requests, without all of the noise and ego seen in forums.

At one point I had a very long phone call from Mark telling me how excited he was about the wishlist and how keen he was to try and see it incorporated with their systems.

I was a dissapointed when nothing seemed to come of that - we all have our ego. But in hindsight it had already played its part at that time :)

I finally got the opportunity to meet some of the Mythic team at the 2004 Austin Game Conference. It was great to finally meet them, and a real shock that they would recall the wishlist. Keep up the good work :)
