Active Bridle

The Active Bridle is a new dynamic bridle configuration for dual line kites. The first two documents listed below describe the Active Bridle, its design, construction and perceived improvements on the kite's flight characteristics.

  • Description: A paper describing the concepts and design of the Active Bridle and the effects it has on the flight characteristics of kites.

  • Construction: A guide to construction and tuning of the Active Bridle.
The third document describes a new variant of the standard Active Bridle design, the Dihedal Active Bridle. This is a simple modification that can be applied to almost any kite with a static bridle to give the effects of an Active Bridle. It is easy to construct, tune and adjust and a specific implementation for the Phantom Elite (Benson Kites) is given. This is probably the best place to start if you just want to try out an Active Bridle on your kite.
  • Dihedral Active Bridle: A new Active Bridle configuration with enhanced flight characteristics and that is easier to design, tune and apply
The fourth document describes some more advanced designs, known collectively as Trihedral Active Bridles. These are still prototypes and should be considered works-in-progress. As such, they contain working (and workable) ideas, but perhaps no specific implementation details.       "Herein lies dragons and all manner of monsters..."
